چکیده
The rewarming benefit of anterior torso heat pad application in mildly hypothermic conscious adult trauma patients remains inconclusive in this randomized comparative clinical trial. There was no between-group rewarming gain in ear canal temperature when an anterior torso chemical heat pad was compared with blankets. Patient awareness, and favorable perception of, being administered the active intervention (heat pad) could explain the significant improvement in patient-rated cold discomfort discerned with the heat pad. In the context of marginal demonstrated benefit, it would have been informative to ascertain adverse effects related to the heat pad, including burn injury to the chest wall.

The effect of active warming in prehospital trauma care during road and air ambulance transportation - a clinical randomized trial
BACKGROUND Prevention and treatment of hypothermia by active warming in prehospital trauma care is recommended but scientific evidence of its effectiveness in a clinical setting is scarce. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of additional active warming during road or air ambulance transportation of trauma patients. METHODS Patients were assigned to either passive warming w...
متن کاملThe chain of survival in hypothermic circulatory arrest: encouraging preliminary results when using early identification, risk stratification and extracorporeal rewarming
BACKGROUND The prognosis in hypothermic cardiac arrest is frequently good despite prolonged period of hypoperfusion and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Apart from protective effect of hypothermia itself established protocols of treatment and novel rewarming techniques may influence on outcome. The purpose of the study was to assess the outcome of patients with hypothermic circulatory arrest trea...
متن کاملActive intravascular rewarming for hypothermia associated with traumatic injury: early experience with a new technique.
Hypothermia is a significant contributor to mortality in severely injured patients. Rewarming is an enormous challenge, especially in those who require operative or angiographic intervention. In this patient population, external warming methods are only capable of reducing further heat loss, whereas active rewarming adds heat to the body's core but is invasive. This article analyzes our initial...
متن کاملStudy of Coincidence of Hoffa’s Fat Pad Associated Injuries in Knee Traumas in Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Background and Objective: Hoffa’s fat pad injuries are often caused by acute direct and indirect trauma and chronic recurrent micro-trauma, and its disorders are associated with other traumas and injuries that have been less paid attention to in radiological studies. Therefore, this study was performed to evaluate the injuries associated with Hoffa’s fat pad injury in knee trauma using the diag...
متن کاملInhibition of shivering increases core temperature afterdrop and attenuates rewarming in hypothermic humans.
During severe hypothermia, shivering is absent. To simulate severe hypothermia, shivering in eight mildly hypothermic subjects was inhibited with meperidine (1.5 mg/kg). Subjects were cooled twice (meperidine and control trials) in 8 degrees C water to a core temperature of 35.9 +/- 0.5 (SD) degrees C, dried, and then placed in sleeping bags. Meperidine caused a 3.2-fold increase in core temper...
